With around 600 registered users for our communication platform on Tamborine Mountain, we're pleased to announce that our 'little idea' has become a reality.
And while communicating during weather events is our focus, we do know that emergency situations occur for just 1-2% per year on average. During these situations, especially when power is impacted or access to food and fuel is impacted - we'll be sending a daily SMS to any registered users through our platform with information regarding a) road closures b) is the IGA open? c) is the petrol station open d) any other important info on hand. We aim to communicate in a calm and non-sensational way, to let people know information that is of real benefit.
What we won't do...
We won't be sending out pre-storm or pre-fire event SMS that creates undue stress on people. We will communicate once a storm or fire event is or has occurred. Guessing when an event will happen is not the focus of this platform.
What are we going to do for the rest of the year?
Many, if not all subscribers have shown their interest in other community notifications. Things like Events, Specials/Offers, Sports, Rentals/Housing and Jobs. We'll start working with local businesses to get this information out to you, if you've subscribed for these reasons. At any point, subscribers can adjust their preferences and choose different topics of interest. Simply click on 'manage my preferences' on our website, or you can also click on the link in any SMS you receive that says 'manage'. Please note our secondary URL for keeping things short and sweet - it is tm-sms.au. We use this domain to keep SMS character length nice and short.
If you have a community notice that you'd like to send through our platform, please also reach out to us via email. contact@tamborinemountain.community. While we do moderate messages that go out to public, we do encourage people/business to reach out and see if our platform can fit their purpose.
